The 2022 Denver Broncos season didn’t end as they desired, but the defense produced a top-five unit. However, that does not mean there isn’t room for improvement.
Pro Football Focus, one of the leading pro football sites focused on analytics, released their list for their top 32 interior linemen coming into the 2023 NFL season. While you could expect Aaron Donald to be at the top of the list, recently signed Broncos defensive lineman Zach Allen may not have expected to be ranked 32nd.
Remember, NFL teams usually have a two-deep at the interior lineman spot, so Allen’s ranking is decent.
Here’s what PFF wrote on why they ranked Allen at 32nd:
Allen turned a career year with the Arizona Cardinals into a nice contract with the Broncos in free agency. And with Allen being just 25 years old after the first four years of his career, Denver will feel good about his career trajectory. His 71.6 PFF pass-rush grade in 2022 was the best of his NFL tenure, as were his six sacks and 35 total pressures.
With Allen bringing a good pass rush from his time with the Cardinals, he may be the fit Denver needs to leap to becoming a contender again.
