PFF grades: Colts best and worst performers vs Vikings

After reviewing the tape, Pro Football Focus has handed out their individual player grades from the Indianapolis Colts performance against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.

So which Colts’ player received the highest marks and who struggled?

However, before we dive into those grades, I always feel the need to mention that PFF’s grading system is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to player evaluation. It is one metric out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.

Here is a look at PFF’s grading system to provide some context behind the numbers:

90.0+: Elite
80-89.9: High quality
70-79.9: Good
60-69.9: Above average
50-59.9: Average
40-49.9: Below average
39.9 or less: Poor

Below you will find the three Colts’ players that received the lowest marks from Sunday’s game. For a more optimistic approach, you can find the highest-graded defenders here and the highest-graded players on offense here.

CB Jaylon Jones

PFF grade: 42.0

Overall it has been a promising season for Jones, but in a difficult matchup against the high-powered Vikings’ passing game, he took his lumps in coverage. According to PFF’s metrics, Jones allowed five receptions on five targets for 76 yards and a score. He was also credited with missing two tackles.

RB Jonathan Taylor

PFF grade: 46.9

Against a very stout Minnesota run defense, Taylor and the Colts’ run game struggled to get going. On 13 carries, Taylor totaled just 48 yards, or 3.7 yards per rush. In the passing game, he caught 3-of-5 passes but only for 11 yards with a drop.

WR Ashton Dulin

PFF grade: 48.9

Dulin was targeted twice but didn’t have any receptions. He would also carry the ball twice and picked up 17 yards. However, what really brought his overall grade down was his performance as a run-blocker, with PFF giving him a grade of just 30.9.
