The Indianapolis Colts sit at 4-4 on the season after Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans. Pro Football Focus has now had the chance to review the tape and handed out individual player grades.
So, which players on offense for the Colts received the highest marks?
Before we dive, I’ll add the always important caveat that PFF’s grading system is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to player evaluation. At the end of the day, it is one metric and should be treated as such. However, typically, if a player performs well, their grade reflects that.
Below is a look at PFF’s grading system to provide some context behind the numbers:
90.0+: Elite
80-89.9: High quality
70-79.9: Good
60-69.9: Above average
50-59.9: Average
40-49.9: Below average
39.9 or less: Poor

WR Josh Downs
PFF grade: 79.6
The few sparks that the Colts were able to generate in the passing game came on throws to Josh Downs. He finished the game with four receptions for 109 yards and a score. This included a 69-yard catch and run touchdown and another leaping 25-yard grab that put the Colts at the goal line, resulting in another touchdown.
RT Braden Smith
PFF grade: 71.2
Collectively, it wasn’t a great day for the Colts’ offensive line unit and even Smith was credited with allowing five pressures, although he didn’t give up a sack. Jonathan Taylor, however, did find success running behind Smith, totaling 39 yards on seven carries.
LG Quenton Nelson
PFF grade: 68.4
Overall, Anthony Richardson was under pressure on almost 50 percent of his dropbacks, but Nelson gave up only one of those pressures, according to PFF. Taylor also averaged 12.5 yards per rush on two attempts when running behind Nelson. Of note, however, Nelson was penalized twice.
