Petrol pump 'hack' described as a game changer for motorists putting limits on fuel

When an Asda boss spoke of 'massive' changes at the petrol forecourts as motorist self-imposed spending limits, it revealed exactly how worried people were about the cost of living crisis. Now, motorists are using a petrol pump hack to make sure their spending is in check right to the last penny.

If you make a habit of trying to hit the exact monetary figure as you fill up your car, then you'll know that it's getting harder as the price of petrol rockets. And for those setting a limit on spending, any overspend is a blow.

A TikTok post from a woman who shared, what appears to be a little-known hack has gone viral as motorists share and comment on the video. And the trick is a simple press of a button!

The petrol pump trick is designed to save you money and time - plus the annoyance of going over your limit. Explaining via the video, the person, who posts under @livticks, shared her discovery of a pre-set button when filling up her car.

"How did I never know this existed?", began the 23-year-old. "If you click this button two times ten for £20. It will stop itself at exactly £20." Adding in excitement: "Wow! That's so cool."

She titled the post "Petrol Life Hack" adding among the hashtags #gamechanger. One person who had viewed the post replied "Wait, you mean no more £20.01????". Another said: "All these years of straining my neck looking at the screen." while someone else added: "Wait really".

Some, however, didn't rate the hack. One TikTok user said: "But that defeats the challenge of trying to do it yourself. It's a game in itself to land on 000s no .01 or .99". Another agreed: "Part of the game is trying to get it bang on the number though! It’s an art". While a third questioned: "How are people just discovering this?".

Others, reflecting on the cost of fuel, which is at record-breaking highs, asked: "Where did £20 get you tho…. To the next street???". To which Livs replied: "Home and back". Another person joining in the conversation said: "Today I drove past the petrol station and I think it charged me just for looking at the prices".

The post, in which the motorist shows the pump settings and explains how to use them, has been viewed some 2m times and has been commented on over 2k times.
