Fears of financial ruin have been sparked and Chelsea are locked in talks with the Government given their concerns the terms of the licence are unworkable.
While there are plenty of football-related questions surrounding the current state of the club, the sanctions are likely to have an impact on the people who work behind the scenes.
Much of the attention will naturally centre around the players but everyone connected with the club and the day-to-day running of it will surely be concerned.
In terms of where the club goes from here, UK property tycoon Nick Candy is preparing a bid.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, Cech - now the technical and performance advisor - fronted up to Sky Sports.
“We hope so,” he said when asked if the club could continue to pay salaries.
“We hope that the people working for the club will be able to get their salaries and get to life their lives.
“But as I said, this is a difficult question for me to answer because I don’t know the answers.
“I don’t know what the licence will be like in a few days. This is a day-to-day situation.”
