Peter Wright reprises Grinch outfit as he begins World Darts Championship defence

Peter Wright is sporting a festive new Grinch-themed costume as he prepares to begin his PDC World Championship title defence.

The two-time Alexandra Palace king is famous for his whacky costumes and crazy hairstyles - designed and crafted by his beloved wife Joanne.

But there were fears that Wright could grace Ally Pally this year without his renowned colourful attire due to the ill health of his wife Jo, who has been in and out of hospital in recent weeks after being rushed to A&E during the Grand Slam in November.

However, Wright revealed before the 2023 tournament that he had a new design up his sleeve after Jo's recovery, as she had been working on a special creation.

And Snakebite has now unveiled an eye-catching Christmas costume to get fans in the festive spirit on the opening night of this year's event.

The Scot has replicated his memorable outfit in the 2020/21 edition of the tournament with striking Grinch-inspired clothing.

Wright's attire is even more colourful than the costume worn in 2020, with a brighter style and red Santa theme. The 52-year-old was in a jovial mood before his second round clash against the winner of the match between Ben Robb and Micky Mansell on night one.

“This is the Christmas Grinch, he loves Christmas,” he explained, as he joined the Sky Sports punditry panel before his title defence gets under way on Thursday evening.

“It’s taken me a month to grow the beard. I’ve have nothing to do apart from look after Jo, so I might as well grow a beard for Christmas."

Wright also provided a positive health update on wife Jo: “She’s on the mend, she’s doing really good," he added.

"The doctors say they haven’t got to see her for another six weeks as long as she has no bad turns. We found that out last Wednesday and then it was ‘right, we can enjoy the Worlds now’.”
