Peter Urminksy delighted to get St Mirren chance and insists he's ready for potential Premiership debut

Peter Urminsky was disappointed not to get a clean sheet against FC Edinburgh.

The Slovakian has played the last three games deputising for St Mirren goalie Trevor Carson who has been out with a knee injury.

And Urminsky told Renfrewshire Live Sport he’s grateful for the opportunity, saying: “As a goalkeeper you want the clean sheet.

"But we played so well apart from maybe 10-15 minutes in the second half.

“It’s my pleasure to be in the goal. I’m so happy.

“After two-and-a-half years at St Mirren I got the three cup games after waiting for my chance. I appreciate every moment that I can be in the goal.

“We will see what happens this week. I’m not too sure how Trevor is doing. He got some injections in his knee and we will see how he is going to be in training.”

The 23-year-old said he’s becoming more confident with every game.

But he admits it’s difficult to be second choice.

Urminsky hopes he might get the nod against Motherwell in the Scottish top flight opener this Sunday afternoon.

He’ll certainly be training like he is the starting keeper.

Urminsky added: “My confidence is building game by game. I don’t have big expectations that I’m going to be number one.

“I’m just working hard on and off the pitch and we will see what will happen during the season.

“But I will always be ready.

“It’s not easy being back-up keeper. All around you see goalkeepers getting a chance at a young age, but I was still just waiting for it.

“Now it comes in cup games and I hope to get a chance in the league as well.

“Motherwell will be a tough match but we will see how it goes.”
