Peter Skoronski and Devon Witherspoon on shortlist for Raiders at No. 7

As we get closer to the night of the draft, we will start to hear more rumors about who the Raiders like (and don’t like) in Round 1.

For the most part, we know the names that the Raiders are likely considering at No. 7, assuming they aren’t picking a quarterback. But who do NFL insiders see the Raiders targeting with their top pick?

In a recent article by Albert Breer of SI.com, he has heard that Illinois CB Devon Witherspoon and Northwestern OL Peter Skoronski are the top two players that the Raiders are considering in Round 1. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on those two players for Las Vegas:

Two names that have come up, along those lines, are (Devon) Witherspoon and (Peter) Skoronski. The former would fill a big need. The latter would too, and might fit the Raiders better than other teams, in that Las Vegas doesn’t need a left tackle (and plenty of teams don’t see Skoronski playing left tackle in the pros).

We know that Witherspoon makes a ton of sense for the Raiders because he fills their need at cornerback. But Skoronski hasn’t gotten enough attention as a possible pick at No. 7. He can play all five spots on the offensive line and would be a massive upgrade at guard right away for Las Vegas.

If the Raiders decide to take a high-floor prospect in Round 1, both Witherspoon and Skoronski fit the bill. Both players would be Day 1 starters for Las Vegas and would immediately make the roster better.
