Peter Schrager doubles-down on Matthew Stafford as 2nd-most clutch QB in NFL

Clutch isn’t a trait that’s easy to define. Some players have a knack for coming through in crunchtime, while others tend to falter when the game is on the line. But there’s no single statistic to determine whether a player is clutch or not.

That’s what makes lists ranking the top five most clutch quarterbacks in the NFL so difficult to do. Peter Schrager undertook that task on “Good Morning Football” Monday and he got a lot of hate for putting Matthew Stafford No. 2 on his list, behind only Patrick Mahomes.

After Stafford, Schrager listed Joe Burrow third, Aaron Rodgers fourth and Josh Allen fifth.

On Tuesday, Schrager backed up his claim that Stafford is the second-most clutch quarterback in the league right now with a fiery rant in response to his haters.

He even came with facts, like Stafford throwing 14 touchdown passes and no interceptions in the fourth quarter of the Rams’ playoff games during their Super Bowl run. Schrager also mentioned that Stafford’s PFF grade in the fourth quarter since 2019 is 92, “far and away the best among all quarterbacks.”

Stafford certainly has the clutch gene despite playing for some bad Lions teams, as evidenced by his 34 career fourth-quarter comebacks. That’s sixth all-time and the second-most among all active quarterbacks, behind only Matt Ryan – who seems to be on his way out of the NFL after taking a broadcasting job.

Stafford simply knows how to get it done in the fourth quarter and if not for his stellar play in the postseason, the Rams wouldn’t have been crowned Super Bowl champions.
