Peter Kay appeared to wipe away tears as fans gave him a huge standing ovation to welcome his return to stand-up comedy on the first night of a mammoth 110-date tour. The Bolton comic performed the first show of his first solo tour for 12 years at Manchester's AO Arena on Friday (December 2).
The comedian arrived on stage in a spotlight silhouette akin to James Bond, before the curtain then fell to huge cheers. Chants of "Peter" rang out amid thunderous applause from the thousands in the arena, with Peter Kay appearing to be overwhelmed by the response, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The comedian said: "Aw you'll have me in bits. Lovely Manchester you made me cry. I can't believe I cried, where did it come from all that emotion?"

Peter Kay's latest tour was announced in between the adverts of the first installment of this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here on ITV. When the tickets eventually went on sale, many fans were left disappointed as thousands waited in online queues for hours.
An initial 22 tour dates were advertised but due to the demand, Peter will playing 110 live shows right into 2025. He will be playing at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena on July 14 and July 15 next year.
