Peter Kay tour sparks anger over 'missed dates' while website completely crashes

Joy over Peter Kay's first tour in 12 years quickly turned to upset after fans discovered that he won't be stopping down south.

The Phoenix Nights star, 49, has remained largely out of the limelight for years apart from charity appearances and "top secret" gigs.

Back in 2017, the comedian called off a string of shows, citing the reason at the time as "unforeseen family circumstances".

However, he will now be embarking on a UK-wide arena tour next month, as he takes his brand new stage show to a number of top venues.

News of his show was announced during an ad break on Sunday while the I'm A Celebrity launch was on, exciting fans as they rushed to grab tickets.

He is set to perform in Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Nottingham, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast - but not London.

Gutted fans took to Twitter, with one writing: "How does Peter Kay announce an arena tour and not include London?"

While another commented: "Mum wants to go and see Peter Kay but there’s no London dates???? Pls why is that even a thing, where are the London dates???"

But a third wrote: "Peter Kay touring again. Can’t see London on that itinerary but will travel anywhere to see this bloke. Within a 30 mile radius….by train. It’ll get streamed within a few months anyway & need to pay the leccy right now #peterkay."

Despite the lack of London dates, demand was still clearly strong as his tour tickets website crashed just minutes after the announcement.

Fans took to Twitter to share screengrabs of 502 errors from the website, with one commenting: "Peter Kay announcing his new tour has caused his website to crash."

"The website crashing every 4 seconds trying to get peter kay tickets will be my 13th reason," another quipped.

"It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now," Peter said.

“And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010."
