According to Manchester Evening News, his mum, Deirdre O'Neill, who is from Co Tyrone, had this concern.

Appearing on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday to co-host, Peter told Zoe: "My mum rang on Sunday night after that advert went on and said, 'how many nights you doing?'."

Deirdre, who is from Coalisland, initially thought Peter was doing 11 gigs, but he informed her he was actually doing more. Peter said she told him: "Peter, that's a lot of nights."

To which Peter responded: "It's a tour." However, Deirdre said: "'How are you going to get home from Manchester?'"

Peter said: "I said, 'I'm going to drive' and she said, 'You're driving yourself? Oh Peter!

"I thought, I'm 49 not nine... I can drive home."

Liverpool Echo report that also on the BBC Radio 2 show, the comedian said: "Huw Edwards said he had to get some tickets at the end. Huw Edwards is going to queue up for tickets... Him? I cannot get my head (around) it.

"I thought we should call this tour Peter Who? because I haven't been (around) for five years. Being on the news... can you get your head around that?"

Kay has done practice shows with three more coming up before the tour.

He told Zoe Ball: "They are going well, I've done a few now. People keep calling them secret gigs, but they're not secret at all.

"They're just online (to book) and they're just first come first served and they come and that's it."

When previously announcing his comeback, Peter said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.

"And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.”

The comedian hasn't toured in 12 years and cancelled his last 14 dates in 2017 due to unforeseen family circumstances.
