Smirking Peter Grant has joked 'some things never change" for Rangers after the Ibrox side were controversially awarded a spot kick against St Mirren.
Gio van Bronckhorst’s men were leading through Antonio Colak’s early strike at Ibrox when the home side were handed the chance to double their advantage from 12 yards when the Croat went down under pressure from Buddies centre-back Declan Gallagher. Despite the Scotland cap appearing to be minimal contact with Colak, referee Nick Walsh pointed to the spot and James Tavernier made no mistake with the penalty.
In the end Rangers would run out comfortable 4-0 winners with Colak netting his second and Fashion Sakala getting on the scoresheet, but the debate has rumbled on post match. Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, former Celtic star Grant was all too happy to wind up fellow pundit and Rangers hero Barry Ferguson over the controversial award.
After Ferguson confessed it shouldn't have been a penalty, Grant chimed in: "What do you think I'm going to say? Some things never change. It was ridiculous."
That then sparked Grant to pick apart VAR - which would seek to eliminate talking points like Walsh's award at Ibrox. He went on: "That has been a part of football for a long time, mistakes. That is what make it what it is. I know it's about money and teams getting relegated, or Champions League wins, but I don't know what referees are on the pitch for now.
"They make a wrong decision and then they just change it. For me if they shout down it's a penalty or not a penalty then that's it. They go and check the VAR and it takes another five minutes, it's not for me.
"When it came in at first I just thought it was going to be goal line technology. Now they are playing on when it's offside, and they are waiting for a horrendous injury there when someone is offside. VAR for me is a no."
