Peter Crouch admits he was once a real-life Alan Partridge living in a Norwich hotel

Back of the net! Footie ace Peter Crouch has confessed he was once a real-life Alan Partridge.

The ex-England striker struck up a bromance with a builder while both were living at a hotel in Norwich.

Crouch, who was on loan to Norwich from Aston Villa at the time, called the man his “Norfolk husband”.

It echoes 90s show I’m Alan Partridge, in which Steve Coogan’s character lives in a hotel and befriends the handyman. Crouch, 41, recalled: “I headed to dinner and got chatting to this builder. It was like Alan Partridge.

Peter Crouch emulated Steve Coogan's (in)famous character (BBC/Baby Cow/Colin Hutton)

"I was in a hotel, on my own, sitting with this builder. He was like, ‘I’m working on this site down the road, I’m here three months’, and I was like, ‘Great, so am I’.

"We had a very decent relationship. I would say, ‘How’s the site?’ and he’d say, ‘Yeah, coming along… how’s Norwich City?’ and I’d be like, ‘Yeah, we’re doing well’.”

Crouch admitted on his podcast he never had his hotel pal’s number and has since forgotten his name.
