Peter Andre wades into Will Smith and Chris Rock's Oscars row

Peter Andre gave his take on the moment Will Smith hit Chris Rock in the face for making a joke about his wife Jada at the Oscars on Sunday.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the singer, 49, uploaded a clip from Will's Best Actor acceptance speech, which happened just 15 minutes after his heated row with the comedian, 57.

An emotional Will, who was awarded the gong for his role in King Richard, told the shocked Hollywood audience the advice Denzel Washington, 67, had given him after the bust-up.

He said: "Denzel said to me a few minutes ago 'In your highest moments, be careful, that's when the devil comes for you’.”

Pete captioned the post: "And the award goes to #denzelwashington. Swipe to see. @willsmith @chrisrock".

The television personality also uploaded a throwback snap of the trio alongside the caption: "In happier times".

Scott Feinberg who was attending the event shared a short video clip with his followers on Twitter and penned: "During the commercial break, Will Smith is pulled aside and comforted by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry, who motion for him to brush it off.

"Will appears to wipe tears from his eyes as he sits back down with Jada, with Denzel comforting Jada and Will’s rep by his side."

Will took umbrage with Chris after the comedian joked about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, saying he "can't wait for GI Jane 2."

The Red Table Talk host, who suffers from alopecia, looked visibly upset and while Will first laughed along at the joke it appeared he later cottoned on to the meaning behind it as it was a reference to Demi Moore's shaven head in the 1997 movie.

Will then walked up to the stage, slapped Chris before returning to his seat and yelling: "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth."

The Mysterious Girl hitmaker's followers soon took to the comment section to wade in on whose side they were on.

One wrote: "No excuse for violence, lost all respect for the guy. Good on Chris carrying on with the show how he did", while another added: "Some jokes can go way below the belt. Sometimes Chris needs to think before he speaks. Not condoning what Will did at all but he could of said something to him backstage instead."

A third follower typed: "Chris was wrong to joke, Will stood up for his wife. What's gone on between Will and Jada in their marriage has nothing to do with anyone else. They are a united team."

Will did apologise for his actions elsewhere in his acceptance speech as he said: "I want to apologise to the Academy, I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment."

He also added: "Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams."
