Peter Andre hits back at critics after terrible reviews of his new stage role in Grease

Peter Andre has hit out at critics who have seen him in action in the West End production of Grease: The Musical - and were left less than satisfied.

The 49-year-old chart topping star has a bit-part in the revived musical which sees relative newcomers Dan Partridge and Olivia Moore starring in the leading roles as Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski respectively.

Peter takes on the part of Vince Fontaine – who was played by Edd Byrnes in the 1978 classic film.

And while fans and some critics have been absolutely thrilled by the latest adaptation – currently playing at London’s Dominion Theatre – others have not been won over by the performances.

Writing in his weekly column for new! magazine, Peter chewed over the varying degrees of praise he has received from the critics.

He writes: “We’ve been getting some amazing reviews for Grease and I’ve had some lovely compliments from the critics. I still get a buzz from that after all these years.

“There have also been a few critics who haven’t been very kind. I understand both sides. But to me, it speaks for itself that every show is full and we are getting a standing ovation every night.”

Peter is so understanding of the bad reviews, it seems, that he’s had to take to his weekly column to hit back at those who dare to suggest his show is anything less than five stars.

However, he added: “The West End is a competitive battlefield, so to get any good reviews is amazing.”

Peter has, indeed, had some glowing reviews from critics – with the star even highlighting one that indirectly mocked the size of his penis in the process.

Fans of the star will know that Pete found himself unfortunately dragged in to the explosive libel trial between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney as the former had discussed the Aussie native’s member in a past interview – comparing the size of his penis a chipolata sausage.

With headlines generated by Peter’s pecker being discussed in court, The Telegraph made light of the scandal in their own four star review of the musical.

They noted: “Grease, review: Peter Andre shines with a small but prominent part” – seemingly making light of reports that Pete’s penis had been mocked by Rebekah.

Peter didn’t seem to mind, however, as he gleefully shared a screen grab of the review and posted it on his Instagram Stories feed.

He wrote: “Thank you for this excellent review” – tagging the Telegraph in his reaction.

Peter has previously hit back at Rebekah’s comments and accused the media of double standards.

He said in the past: “If a man had said this about her anatomy and made up something, you can use your imagination, saying something very unflattering, there’d be absolute outrage.

“But because it’s been said about me it’s been the butt of all jokes.”

Meanwhile, the star told those attending the press launch of Grease that he was thrilled to have his time in the West End spotlight.

He gushed to the audience: “I’m beyond excited to be making my West End debut playing Vince Fontaine in Grease, it is such an iconic musical.”
