Pete Tong's Ibiza Classics is a must-see event for any dance music lover.
The God of classic dance music arrived at Aintree Race Course accompanied by a 65-person strong orchestra and an impressive light show. Aintree is the perfect venue for an act like this, any open-air venue would do the job actually, but there’s always something electric in the air when it comes to this specific location.
The buzz from the audience only added to the summertime excitement. Once the lights began to flash and the speakers switched from silence to blasting the iconic sounds of the 90s.

Pete Tong is one of the founding fathers of trance music and to experience his set in person, as a lifelong fan of the genre and the producer, he every bit delivered on expectation and energy. I grew up listening to the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Gouryella, 4 Strings, Paul van Dyke and Ferry Corsten so this, for me, was the equivalent of a modern-day pop fan watching Beyonce.
It helped that all of the tracks you’d hope to hear even as a casual fan were present: Faithless' Insomnia, Robert Miles' Children, Eric Prydz's Pjanoo and many more backed by live singers and the showstopping band. Coupled with the incredible laser display, you would be fooled into thinking you truly were somewhere in Ibiza in the late 90s.
The crowd of hundreds was lost in the stunning visuals and intense bass, delivering the connected feeling live music offers. This show especially was magic to experience and there wasn’t any one factor that pushed it over the edge. Everything came together in perfect unison which is the exact treatment classic industry staples like this deserve.
There were no peaks and valleys in the show as it was a constant banger, one after another. While that may not sound ideal for those who want to pace themselves for the evening, it was clear the playlist was specifically chosen to impress a Liverpool audience and there was no time for a cooldown. After the show ended, the buzz in the air was still going strong.
Some musicians offer a greatest hits tour to appease fans one final time before bowing out but Pete is delivering that same standard with no signs of slowing down. Though he's swapped the warped electronic sound in favour of a full orchestra, Ibiza Classics is a must-see for any trance aficionado as its style and setlist transcend generations.
