Pete Taylor back lifting weights after 'freak' leg injury drama in Barcelona

Boxing coach Pete Taylor is on the road to recovery back lifting weights four months after he suffered a “freak injury” in Barcelona.

Pete, 59, the father of Olympic boxing legend Katie Taylor, previously explained that the accident occurred when he was chasing a thief in the Spanish city.

He ruptured the bi-lateral quads in both legs which left him in casts and wheelchair bound for a number of months.

He had to learn to walk again following the horror incident and back then he praised his long-time partner and now wife Karen Browne who he married last year in a low-key wedding in Majorca.

"This is my angel, she washed and cleaned my arm twice a day for 18 months now she’s wheeling me up and down in a wheelchair for the next 12 weeks and will be helping me to walk again. You can never doubt someone who’s in your life who is there for you all the time."

Now Pete, who runs a boxing gym in Bray, Co Wicklow, is back at the gym standing and lifting weights four months after his ‘freak accident.’

In a post on Instagram, Pete captioned an image of him in a chair in hospital with casts on both legs with ‘From this’ followed by a short video of him lifting weights. He captioned that video with “to this ….finally back lifting weight 4 months post bi-lateral quad rupture.”

Pete previously recovered from a horrific injury he suffered after being shot at Bray Boxing Club in 2018.

During that incident his friend Bobby Messett (50) was gunned down and killed - while Pete suffered serious arm injuries that took nearly two years to recover from.

He previously spoke about his lengthy 18 month recovery following the shooting, and the stress it has caused him during that time.
