Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was named head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders last week. Carroll is now busy putting together his coaching staff for his latest venture. He’s reportedly interested in poaching an assistant away from the Seahawks.
Carroll and the Raiders have requested permission to interview Seahawks defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Karl Scott for their defensive coordinator vacancy, according to a report by CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones. Jones had previously reported that Scott was a DC candidate in Vegas. That has now come to fruition.

Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks are unable to block Carroll’s request to speak with Scott because they are technically offering him a chance to discuss a promotion. The league does not view “passing game coordinator” on the same level as an actual defensive/offensive coordinator. The expectation is that Scott will interview with the Raiders.
Scott initially joined the Seahawks’ staff in 2022 under Carroll. He was the lone holdover from Carroll’s staff who Macdonald decided to retain. If Scott lands in Vegas, Macdonald will be tasked with appointing a new cornerbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Perhaps he’d identify a candidate from his time in Baltimore or Michigan.
