Personal belongings of missing West Lothian hillwalker found during frantic search

The personal belongings of a missing West Lothian hillwalker have been recovered during a frantic search for him.

Police are continuing to appeal for information over the whereabouts of 57-year-old Ross Kinghorn from Linlithgow, who boarded a train from the West Lothian town to Blair Atholl on January 16.

It is believed Ross left home to go on a hike in Perthshire but officers admit they are "very worried" for his welfare following a renewed appeal.

CCTV footage captured the moment Ross left Linlithgow around 6:30am on Monday, January 16, as he travelled to the Bridge of Tilt area to climb the Beinn a' Ghlo hills.

Ross's family reported him missing on Friday, January 20, after he failed to return from the trip and some of his personal belongings have now been found near Bridge of Tilt.

Officers are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare and are urging anyone who may have seen Ross to get in touch. Residents are also being asked to check any sheds or outbuildings.

Ross was last seen boarding the train at Linlithgow (Police Scotland)

Ross is described as a white male, 5ft 8ins tall, slim build, bald head and is believed to have been dressed in a blue beanie hat, blue waterproof jacket, green fleece, grey walking trousers and brown boots when he disappeared.

Sergeant James Longden said: "We remain very concerned for Ross as our enquiries continue and we would continue to urge anyone with any information which may help to get in touch.

"Ross is an experienced hillwalker. His intention was to walk in the Beinn a' Ghlo hills above Blair Atholl and I would urge any other walkers who have been in the area who may have seen anything which looked out of place to get in touch as your information may prove helpful.

"I would also ask residents in the Bridge of Tilt area to check their sheds and outbuildings for any sign that he may have been there. Anyone who may have seen Ross is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 1588 of 20 January, 2023."
