Atlus is pulling from an unexpected corner of the "Persona" franchise for its upcoming remake. A character who never appeared in the original game is now getting a proper role, along with a brand new bond for players to build during their time in Inaba.
'Persona 4 Revival' Is Adding a New Character
Atlus confirmed in the latest episode of the "Persona4 Revival Broadcast" that "Persona 4 Revival" is adding Aika Nakamura as a new character joining the cast for the upcoming remake. Her inclusion marks a notable departure from the source material, since Aika never appeared as a named character in the original "Persona 4" or its expanded "Golden" release.
Her addition gives the remake a slightly expanded cast compared to what longtime fans of the original game grew up with, adding fresh material to a story otherwise built around a well-known murder mystery playing out in the town of Inaba.
GameRant reported that Aika's presence will add more information about the history of some of the game's characters, including Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko.

New Character Is Anime-Exclusive Only
Aika Nakamura actually traces back to the "Persona 4" anime adaptation, which aired between the release of the original game and its later "Golden" expansion. In the anime, she is portrayed as a member of the Nakamura family who runs Chinese Diner Aiya, the restaurant located near Tatsumi Textiles that regularly serves the game's cast throughout their adventures.
Her connection to the diner ties her closely to Kanji Tatsumi and his mother, who frequent the same establishment throughout the story.
Since Aika only existed within the anime continuity and never had a speaking role or defined presence in the games themselves, her addition to "Persona 4 Revival" effectively pulls a piece of the anime's version of Inaba directly into the remake's world.
New Social Link Also Unveiled
Alongside her introduction, Atlus also revealed that Aika Nakamura will come with her own dedicated Social Link, giving players a new relationship to build throughout the game's yearlong story. Social Links have long been a core mechanic across the Persona series, letting the protagonist deepen bonds with characters around Inaba in ways that directly strengthen their Personas in battle.
Adding a completely new Social Link built around a character absent from the original release gives returning players something genuinely unfamiliar to experience, even as they revisit a story many already know by heart.
Atlus has not detailed exactly how Aika's storyline will unfold or where her Social Link fits within the game's existing structure, though her anime origins suggest her arc will likely tie back to the Aiya restaurant setting that defined her original appearances.
"Persona 4 Revival" is being developed by P-Studio as a full remake of "Persona 4 Golden," rebuilding the beloved murder mystery adventure with updated visuals and modernized systems while keeping its turn-based combat and social simulation elements intact. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, with a later release also planned for Nintendo Switch 2.
