Edinburgh rail passengers face potential cancellations and disruptions on Friday, May 27, due to reports of a person being struck by a train between Glasgow and Motherwell.
ScotRail confirmed that due to an incident involving the emergency services, train services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh, via Shotts may be cancelled, delayed or revised.
Traffic information site INRIX reports that ScotRail, Avanti West Coast and Transpennine Express services between Glasgow Central and Motherwell are currently suspended.
The incident is therefore affecting lines to the capital, with one service already being cancelled between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Ticket acceptance for people attempting to travel in the affected area has currently been deployed by the rail provider, with the extent of delays currently unknown while emergency services deal with the incident.

However, with the line being one of the busiest in the country for commuters throughout the day, delays are almost certain to have knock on effects into the afternoon.
Taking to Twitter to inform travellers of the potential disruption, ScotRail said: "NEW: Due to an incident involving the emergency services, train services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts may be cancelled, delayed or revised.
"Ticket acceptance: 2L Dalmuir to Larkhall services to divert via Carmyle and terminate at Motherwell. 2R Dalmuir to Motherwell services to divert via Carmyle. 2C Dalmuir to Motherwell / Cumbernauld services to divert via Carmyle."
Network Rail also confirmed that a person had been hit by a train on the Glasgow - Motherwell line.
An update on their website reads: "A person has been hit by a train between Glasgow Central and Motherwell which means all lines are currently closed. Whilst emergency services attend to the incident, trains between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
"Disruption is expected to continue until 13:15."
