Person dies after being pulled from river running through public park by firefighters

A person has been pronounced dead after being pulled from a river in a park yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Keynsham Memorial Park in Bristol, Somerset, on January 3 at around mid-day to rescue the person from the water.

Avon and Somerset Police attended to the scene following reports that a member of the public had seen someone in the water at the park.

Tragically, the ambulance service pronounced them dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the police force has said that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Officers have also confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to identify the body.

The spokesperson said: "A member of the public called us at 11.55am today (January 3) to report they had seen a person in the water at Memorial Park, in Keynsham. Emergency services attended the scene and the fire service brought the person to shore.

"Sadly, the person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

"Officers will be making enquiries on behalf of the coroner to identify the deceased and their next of kin."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to Keynsham Memorial Park by police at 12:03pm today (Tuesday 3 January) with a request for our support to rescue a person in the water.

"Crews from Kingswood and Bedminster attended the incident and firefighters recovered one person from the water.

"Ambulance crews sadly pronounced the person deceased at the scene."
