Persistence pays off for lottery winner who landed $1 million prize in Ohio

• Persistence paid off for a Valley City man who won a $1,000,000 top prize from an Ohio Lottery Millionaire Blowout scratch-off ticket purchased at Grafton Crews Thru in Grafton, Ohio.
• The man told lottery officials that he had to work hard to get to the store because there was a railroad crossing out and a lot of traffic, but he’s glad he stuck with his plan and purchased a couple scratch-offs.
• The man said he chose the Millionaire Blowout Scratch-Off because he had won $75 multiple times and felt like there were a lot of winners. After scanning his ticket on the Ohio Lottery app, he initially believed he had won $40,000 before fully scratching spot 62 to reveal the $1,000,000 jackpot.
• He said his wife assumed he was joking until the couple officially validated and claimed the ticket at the regional lottery office. They selected the one-time cash payout option of $500,000, receiving $366,250 after mandatory state and federal tax withholdings of 26.75%.
• The couple plans to use the prize money to pay off bills and replace their home windows, and invest the remainder of the funds.
