Perry County Schools Superintendent Jonathan Jett to leave position December 31

The board has yet to make a decision on how to fill the role of superintendent when Jett’s contract ends in December.

After a long career in Perry County Schools, Superintendent Jonathan Jett is leaving in December. Jett and the school board came to the decision at the regular meeting Tuesday night.

Board Member Richy Miller made the motion after the board returned from executive session.

“That we enter into agreement with the superintendent to end his contract effective December 31st to get a fresh start on the direction that our school is going,” said Miller.

No other explanation was given for the decision to end Jett’s contract.

Board Member Lloyd Engle voted no on the motion.

“The reason why is that I feel like we had a contract and that he should serve his contract out and that $200,000 is too much to pay for him just to leave, you know,” said Engle.

Board Chairman Denny Combs was the only other no vote. He cited the budget and taxpayers. The full terms of the agreement to terminate the contract were not discussed in the open meeting.

The motion passed the board three to two.
