Perplexed Rangers-minded pundit insists European defeat 'wasn't even football'

Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday admitted the UEFA Conference League play-off defeat to Jablonec left him puzzled as to what he had witnessed.

Derek McInnes’s side led 1-0 from an unconvincing first leg, and it was levelled up when Jablonec midfielder Vakhtang Tchanturishvili scored in the 73rd minute, taking the game to an extra 30 minutes, which preceded a 4-3 win for the home side on penalties.

Halliday, these days a pundit, told BBC Sportsound: “I don’t think Rangers are an upgraded side from last year. This isn’t an isolated couple of games over this Jablonec tie. We saw it against Jagiellonia, we saw it against Hibs, we saw it against Dundee United.

“All but the St Mirren game in the Premier Sports Cup have been poor, poor performances. It’s disbelief. We all love football. That was a different sport I watched tonight. That wasn’t even football.

“I don’t even know what I watched tonight.”
