Brian Sorensen has spoken of his delight at the way his Everton side 'executed' their game plan against Liverpool and praised Jess Park for her performance at Anfield.
The Blues picked up their first three points of their WSL campaign after claiming a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Matt Beard’s side. Everton had been beaten by West Ham United last time out.
Sorensen's side dominated from the off against their local rivals and took the lead after just nine minutes when defender Megan Finnigan directed a header past Rachael Laws in the Liverpool goal.

Speaking ahead of the game, Sorensen spoke of his side's desire to quieten the Anfield crowd, and they were certainly silenced just after the half-hour mark when Jess Park added a second. Nathalie Bjorn released Park with a stunning ball over the top and the young forward showed pace and precision to round Laws and finish into the empty net.
Substitute Hanna Bennison then scored a third with three minutes of normal time remaining to add salt to Liverpool's wounds.
“Really, really happy and so happy for the girls because I think the way that we did it was probably what I am most happy about,” Sorensen said post-match. “We were in control the whole game and executed our game plan to perfection.
“I think we showed today we can control the game and create chances. So performance-wise I am really happy for the girls. It shows the character and talent in the team.”
The derby was played in front of a record Anfield WSL crowd of 27,574, with a small army of travelling Everton supporters making the trip across Stanley Park. The 27,574 in attendance beat the previous record set in the last meeting in 2019 when 23,500 watched Everton claim a 1-0 victory.
“It was good to see so many. I could actually hear them in the game. That is what we said before, use our football to shut the crowd down,” the Blues boss replied when asked about the support his side received.
“If we keep it and we use it then they are not going to be cheering all of the time. Amazing crowd for women’s soccer in general. Really happy to see that.”
Having been with Manchester City since 2017, Park is one of England’s brightest young players, and joined the Blues on loan during the summer transfer window. And Sorensen explained post-match how the 20-year-old was a player he always wanted to bring to the club following his own summer arrival.
He said: “Jess was brilliant. When I first came into the job and talked to the club, I had some targets I wanted to bring in, young English players like Jess Park and Aggie Beever-Jones.
“We were lucky to get them. It is what we want to do, give the young players a platform to play, when they are in the bigger club where it is harder competition. I’m just so happy for Jess the way she performed today.”
