It’s the middle of October, which means it is spooky season- for some teams more than others. With poor records and offensive production scarier than any Michael Myers or Jason Vorhees flick, multiple teams will be looking to sell at the October 31 trade deadline while potential contenders look to buy and make an even stronger run at a championship.
The following players are likely to get dealt, and I have the perfect spot for each of them.
WR Hunter Renfrow: Buffalo Bills
The Bills have missed having Cole Beasley as their slot guy who can eat in the underneath game. They haven’t exactly used Dalton Kincaid as that guy yet, and while Khalil Shakir and Deonte Harty are good depth pieces, they aren’t every-down slot receivers. Renfrow is one of the finest route runners in the game. If teams have to worry about him and Stefon Diggs, that will make this offense more dangerous than it already is.
WR Jerry Jeudy: Baltimore Ravens
I’ve seen a lot of people say the Patriots should make a move for Jeudy, but they need far more than a receiver to fix their mess. The Ravens, however, are a more explosive offense away from being more than a second-tier contender.
The current collection of Ravens’ playmakers not named Zay Flowers leave a lot to be desired. Odell Beckham Jr. is hurt every other snap and is on the wrong side of 30, Rashod Bateman has severely underperformed as a former first-round pick, and Nelson Agholor and Devin Duvernay aren’t top-tier weapons. Get Jeudy to Baltimore and then Lamar Jackson has a pair of really good receivers, as well as Mark Andrews to distribute to.
CB Jaylon Johnson: Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers aren’t getting anything out of Patrick Peterson and Levi Wallace. The latter has allowed the eighth most receiving yards in the league, per PFF. Wallace has also allowed three touchdowns, which is the second most in the league. By trading for Johnson, the Steelers could have a cornerback tandem of the future with the current Bears’ defensive back and Joey Porter Jr. Pittsburgh just has to hope the Bears don’t have complete PTSD from that Chase Claypool trade.
EDGE Danielle Hunter: Houston Texans
I’d love this pairing so much. The Texans are a legitimate Wildcard contender with the way they are playing right now. C.J. Stroud is on the fast track to being this year’s offensive Rookie of the Year, and Houston has a 3-3 record through six weeks.
Will Anderson has looked good thus far, but the Texans don’t have any legitimate pass rushers outside of their rookie from Alabama. Houston has nine sacks as a team- Hunter has eight sacks by himself. He is just 28 years old, which means he still has several years of high-quality football left in him. Build around your budding-star at quarterback while you can still afford to.
