Pepper Grinder is a beautiful, stunning, and simple-looking platformer that was just released on PlayStation and Xbox consoles on Aug. 6, 2024, following an initial release on PC and Nintendo Switch earlier this year.

At the very basics of platformers, the key to success is reliant on great-feeling movements, such as running, jumping, double jumping, and others. Pepper Grinder's unique drilling mechanic lets players zip around levels nonchalantly.

Those who may have missed the game when it was released on PC and Nintendo Switch on Mar. 28, 2024, now have another chance to get it on consoles.

The game's story begins with the titular character, Pepper, finding herself washed ashore on an island filled with enemies.

Shortly after, you find the Grinder, which is a giant drill that allows Pepper to drill into different surfaces found on each level. This offers players a unique way of traversal that the game itself builds around, according to Kotaku.

When you move through the ground using the Grinder, the game makes it feel like you are simply shooting through water. You are then able to pull off various moves, such as dashing out of the ground to make significant jumps.

After mastering the basics of Pepper Grinder's movement and getting into the rhythm, you can start learning how to string together jumps and drill into the ground to get enough speed to rush through levels.

A Beautiful and Stunning Platformer

Pepper Grinder features four different worlds that each offer players a handful of levels where they can zip around, tunnel through various materials, and rush through enemies.

Another homage to a classic platformer, the game's levels up with Pepper drilling to spin a flag up its pole, said PushSquare.

Also, the game features a boss stage at the end of each world that features noticeable spikes in difficulty as you progress. Fortunately, this is somewhat mitigated by Pepper Grinder's difficulty options that even let you slow down the game itself.

On the other hand, the regular levels focus on movement and task players with finding the right line to progress to the next section of platforming. Pepper Grinder also features amazing music and tons of hidden areas for players to discover.

The enemies in the game also have a distinctive art style and include little angry green narlings and other monsters that are trying to stop you from getting the treasures you are searching for, according to GamesHub.
