Pep Guardiola rubbishes Neymar to Man City links but drops new transfer hint

Manchester City will not be signing Neymar this summer, Pep Guardiola has confirmed. City have been linked with Neymar in French media this week, with the suggestion being that the Blues would move for the Paris Saint-Germain forward before the end of the transfer market.

The Blues have lost Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus this summer, with Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez arriving, but they are still lower on options in the wide areas than last season.

However, Guardiola was quick to rubbish the reports, telling media in Houston before City's friendly with Club America that there was no truth to the suggestion of Neymar moving to the Etihad.

"I’m sorry for Le Parisien but it’s not true," he said.

"Their information is not right, Neymar is an incredible player and the information I have he’s an incredibly nice guy. But it’s not right. Every summer Manchester City are going to buy 150 players."

Guardiola then reflected on those departures from the club, with Zinchenko expected to follow to Arsenal - and he did not rule out any new signings even if Neymar won't be one of them.

He said: "Zinchenko, like Gabriel and Raheem, the impact of these three players has been massive, incredible people and exceptional players, they move on. Chelsea and Arsenal are incredible clubs, I'm happy for the success they’ll have there.

"Our gratitude for how they behave on and off the pitch. It was nice with Oleks, we could say bye properly. We couldn’t do it with Gabriel and Raheem, but with Oleks we had dinner and said bye.

"We will see about signing, Txiki and his department are scouting, he’ll know what is best for the team."
