Pep Guardiola responds to claims of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal title advantage over Man City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday evening's Premier League clash against Arsenal.

The north Londoners currently sit three points clear at the top of the league table, although their superior goal difference means that a City win at the Emirates Stadium would send them above the Gunners in the standings. Ahead of the highly-anticipated clash, Guardiola was asked if Mikel Arteta's time as the Citizens' assistant coach could offer Arsenal an advantage, to which he responded: "The time was mainly Liverpool, we can't say Liverpool didn't have the experience under pressure.

"I would say if there is three or four games left and the difference is one point, maybe it could be important. As I said there are lot of points to play, this is important but there are many."

Guardiola boasts an impressive record against Arteta, losing just once when facing his former apprentice - an FA Cup semi-final back in 2020. Still, the former Barcelona boss has admitted that Arsenal have been the best team in the English top-flight this season.

"So far they are the best team in the Premier League", Guardiola added when asked about the Gunners. "We felt it a couple of weeks ago. The commitment, they are sharp. It will be a big, big battle. In the departments, you have to be ready.

"I do not truly believe one week ago we are out of form and now we're back in form. Every game is different, you can play good and win and everything is perfect but tomorrow you could lose. Many games to play. Tomorrow is an important one, everyone knows it, and we'll try to do our best.

"It's important cause we can take the points, the best team so far could not. But after Nottingham Forest, Champions League, six games away. I have a feeling many things can happen. Tomorrow can help us be there but there are many games, tough games. We can not deny it's important to prove ourselves, handle the many aspects."
