Pep Guardiola linked with huge job with Man City future unclear

With Pep Guardiola’s current deal at Man City expiring at the end of the season the Spaniard has reportedly been linked with one of football’s biggest jobs – as former top player Ronaldo Nazario is behind the ambitious plan to appoint him.

Pep Guardiola Leaving Man City Would Make Him The Hottest Property In Football

Should City fail to tie the 53-year-old down to a new contract, Pep Guardiola will become the most sought-after coach in world football.

This is because Guardiola has won a staggering 18 trophies in nine years at the club. These include six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups.

And according to Spanish outlet Sport, Real Madrid legend Ronaldo wants to appoint Guardiola as Brazil’s next head coach – should he be elected as the next president of the Brazilian federation.

The report goes on to suggest that Ronaldo would look to appoint Guardiola in 2026. Which would be a year after his City deal expires.

Ronaldo is reportedly planning to run for presidency of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) next year and a key part of his manifesto is to appoint Guardiola, which could swing plenty of votes in his favour.

Current CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues’ term will come to an end in March 2026. Rodrigues is expected to run for re-election next year but faces competition from Ronaldo.

Guardiola Is Open To National Team Football

Guardiola has previously revealed his ambitions to one day coach a national team.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with the England job last month. However, the FA instead appointed Thomas Tuchel as Three Lions boss.

“A national team,” Guardiola told ESPN Brasil earlier this year. “I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that.

“When I started in this, I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought, I have a job? OK.

“I would like to have the experience of living through a World Cup, or a Euro or a Copa America, or whatever it is. I would like that.”

Guardiola’s Links With Brazil Are Nothing New

Guardiola was linked with the Brazil job this month, with Rodrigues denying contact has been made with the manager.

“Although he is one of the greatest coaches in the world, there was no involvement from the CBF to make any contact,”. Rodrigues told ESPN Brasil.

“We’ve been working with the coaching staff led by Dorival Júnior and we’re satisfied.

“Yes [Dorival continues], the point is that he has a contract, the CBF has until 2026, he goes until the World Cup… It’s up to him.”
