Pep Guardiola Expresses Desire To Manage National Team At Tournament

Ravi Ashwin Poses with team management

Pep Guardiola, the esteemed manager of Manchester City, has expressed his desire to lead a national team at a major tournament before retiring from coaching. Guardiola, who is under contract with Manchester City until 2025, has left the possibility of signing an extension open.

Throughout his illustrious career, Guardiola has been linked to managerial roles with prominent national teams such as Brazil, England, and the United States. He has set his sights on the World Cup, European Championship, or Copa America as potential tournaments he would like to manage in the future.

In an interview with ESPN Brasil, Guardiola shared his aspiration, stating, 'A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that.' When asked if he had a preference for a specific country to manage, Guardiola humbly replied, 'I don't know who would want me! To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club.'

Guardiola's managerial career has been nothing short of remarkable, with numerous titles in Spain, Germany, and England, including three Champions League triumphs. Despite his impressive track record, Guardiola emphasized that he has not set a specific goal of winning the World Cup, Euros, or Copa America.

Reflecting on his career, Guardiola remarked, 'I never thought about it like that [with the goal to win a World Cup]. When I started in this, I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought, I have a job? OK. I would like to have the experience of living through a World Cup, or a Euro or a Copa America, or whatever it is. I would like that.'

While Guardiola remains uncertain about the timing of his potential national team management role, he is eager to experience the unique challenge of leading a team in a prestigious international tournament. His ambition and passion for the game continue to drive his aspirations in the world of football.
