Pep Guardiola explained his frustrations at Ilkay Gundogan's missed penalty against Leeds, telling his regular penalty takers Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez that they should have pulled rank and taken the kick.
City had coasted into a two-goal lead in the first half against a poor Leeds side, with captain Gundogan twice finding the bottom corner from the 18-yard line. It felt like City would comfortably see out the three points, especially when Phil Foden won the 84th-minute spot kick.
However, Gundogan stepped up for his hat-trick, saw his effort saved, and Leeds immediately pulled a goal back to set up a needlessly-nervy finish. Guardiola could be seen shouting to Erling Haaland that 'you have to take it', in regards to the penalty, and he explained his thinking after the match.
