People with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder had a 71% higher rate of death from any cause than people without the condition, according to a systematic review and meta-analysis in JAMA Network Open published Oct. 19. The review included 19 studies covering 15,920,970 participants in North America, Europe, and Asia, and the all-cause estimate pooled data from nine of them.
The gap was not explained by one cause. Deaths by suicide, deaths from injuries, and deaths from natural causes were all more common among people with ADHD.
