People's Postcode Lottery winner doubles his money

An NHS worker bagged a £60,000 People's Postcode Lottery win after only playing for a single month.

The anonymous 24-year-old was one of two lucky winners in Liverpool to walk away with the £30k prize - and even doubled his prize by playing with two tickets.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it. My mum had won a few prizes and told me to sign up. I haven’t actually told her yet. She’s gonna be made up and I want to treat her, take her away somewhere she’s really wanted to go.

“I’d like to do a bit of traveling, visiting the main cities like in Prague, Budapest and maybe hit Berlin as well. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”

The other winner found out about her £30,000 prize on her birthday, having almost cancelled her ticket just a couple of weeks before.

She said: “It’s amazing, the best birthday news I could get. I was going to cancel as I was looking to cut back on some costs last month. Luckily, I changed my mind.

“I’ve got a week off to celebrate and will be heading to Greece. I’m going to share some of the money with my parents and I’m going to save the rest for a house deposit.”

It’s not the first visit the Postcode Lottery has paid to the Merseyside area in recent months. Elaine, a nan-of-eight from Whiston, won £30,000 in 2022 alongside pal and fellow cancer survivor Lisa, who pocketed the same.

Elaine said: “We’ve both been ill, so it certainly means an awful lot.”

St. Helens took home the 'Big Millions' prize twice in 2019, with residents sharing £6m. One lucky winner included Pat Rowlands, an Asda employee, who planned to retire early with her £333,332 prize.

She said: "This money really is life changing. I can finally think about retiring. We go to Wales every year so there's a chance we can buy a place over there now, we've been talking about it for ages."

Postcode Lottery ambassador Jeff Brazier said: “We love coming to Liverpool, it’s such a warm and welcoming city, and I’m already looking forward to visiting again soon. A big congratulations to the winners and the very best of luck to everyone playing in Merseyside.”
