People On TikTok Have Started Collectively Ignoring Celebs & The First Famous Target Is JoJo Siwa

Apparently everyone on TikTok is ignoring JoJo Siwa right now and I can’t lie — the things that will bring a bonkers place like the internet together will forever make me laugh.

It seems karma really is a bitch for JoJo. However, she might not be the only one taking the heat online, with other big names like the Kardashians and Taylor Swift potentially next in line for this digital cold shoulder.

Why are people ignoring JoJo Siwa on TikTok?

It all kicked off when TikToker Anita posted a video that took the platform by storm, racking up a whopping 43 million views. Her proposition? Let’s all just pretend celebs don’t exist!

“Bruh, imagine if we all just started ignoring celebrities. Like how hilarious would it be if they posted and got like 13 likes?” Anita wrote.

Would be so funny 🫢😏😏😏🤣🤣

Naturally, the internet couldn’t resist jumping on this bandwagon, with many similar videos popping up on TikTok, and whoosh — JoJo became the first name thrown into the mix.

“Omg yes, let’s start with JoJo Siwa,” one incredibly enthusiastic commenter chimed in. “JoJo Siwa please,” echoed another.

Looking over at JoJo’s account she’s definitely still getting views in the millions, but users have pointed out that the ratio between likes and views are WAY off. For instance, a video with 17.5 million views only has 35.8k likes. Some comments are even racking up more likes than the videos themselves! I can literally hear influencers weeping in the wind.

However, not everyone is getting the point of the trend. There are many users saying that these likes on comments or comments in general are not really helping the cause.

“Us commenting is not helping,” one user said. “Guys, I thought we were gonna ignore?” asked another, ironically while boosting JoJo’s engagement with a comment. If you’re going to be a hater, at least do it right!

Who else are people planning to ignore?

The trend has expanded its sights to other big names. TikTok users are eyeing the likes of the Kardashians, Beyoncé, Sierra Furtado, Taylor Swift, and even Adam Levine as potential targets for this collective snub. It seems if you’ve ever graced a magazine cover, had a hit song or done a ridiculous PR unboxing, you might want to brace yourself for some digital silence.

The idea is simple: by ignoring these celebrities, the public can send a message about their perceived influence and perhaps even challenge the status quo of celebrity culture.

Why are people ignoring celebrities and will it actually work?

Hating on celebrities has been an age old tradition, but there has definitely been a shift online that is seeing people take action on this hate — because frankly they’re over it. This year alone has seen movements like the celeb blackout over Palestine and calls to block anyone who attended the Met Gala due to its extravagant display of wealth amid economic disparity.

But, will this trend actually work — especially without a clear motivator like the other anti-celeb trends? Who’s to say? The internet is a fickle and moody beast; one moment we’re all about ignoring celebs, and the next we’re back to scrolling through their posts like nothing happened.

One thing is for sure, whether we’re ignoring them or not, they’ll keep giving us something to talk about.
