People on the move: Key North East appointments and promotions of the week

Hodgson Sayers has made a raft of new appointments across the business.

Diane Pagram, Philip Alison and Gary Bottomley join as contract managers, Audrey Gowland has been appointed as contract co-ordinator/administrator, Jennifer Graham joins as purchase ledger clerk and Sarah Callun and Lynn Nevins as administrators.

The business, which is headquartered in Stanley, County Durham and has a base in Nottingham, has around 100 staff.

John Sayers, managing director at Hodgson Sayers, said: “We welcome our new colleagues, each brings a special skillset to their individual roles. In Gary’s case, we are pleased to bring North East talent back to the region as we build a strong team that offers great experience, problem-solving and customer focus.”

Chris Turnbull of Avison Young (Avison Young)

Chris Turnbull has been named Avison Young principal based in the firm’s Newcastle office. He joins more than 51 principals that are being honoured as part of the Avison Young Principal Class of 2022.

Mr Turnbull has been with the company for three years and specialises in project management across various sectors including commercial offices and hotels. He is currently delivering the Pilgrim Street regeneration project, with over one million sq ft of development across three city centre blocks.

He said: “I am delighted with the promotion, which is testament to the progress achieved at Pilgrim Street and upon other projects UK wide. I am excited to be involved at Pilgrim Street, one of the largest projects in the North East. I look forward to the many challenges which will arise as the many phases of the regeneration project move forward to fruition."

Samantha Lamb, HR manager at NTG Precision Engineering (NTG Precision Engineering)

NTG Precision Engineering has appointed Samantha Lamb as HR manager.

The Team Valley-based company has been expanding its workforce as it increases the order book for its specialist engineering services.

Ms Lamb has extensive executive recruitment experience across both the private and public sectors including engineering, manufacturing, IT, telecommunications, construction, education, and health provision.

She said: “NTG’s philosophy dovetails perfectly with mine as it genuinely believes that its people are the most important element in the organisation.The company has embarked on a growth plan and the calibre of its workforce is central to it achieving excellence across the business.”

Helen Robinson and Sam Kirtley of TMD Friction (TMD Friction)

Hartlepool automotive manufacturer TMD Friction has appointed Sam Kirtley and Helen Robinson in senior HR roles.

Ms Kirtley joins as UK finance director from Gestamp in Newton Aycliffe, while Ms Robinson joins as the new HR manager for the UK, replacing Jenny Wright who has been promoted into a global role.

MD Friction, which has its only UK production facility in Hartlepool, has been making parts for the passenger car aftermarket since 1974 and now employs 508 people.

Tom Russell, UK operations manager, said: “Sam and Helen’s appointments onto the leadership team come at a hugely important time for the business, as we continue to benefit from significant investment which is facilitating the continued expansion of the Hartlepool plant and the recruitment of new colleagues to support our ambitious plans for growth over the coming months.”

Siobhan Byrne of Bonded (Bonded)

Bonded has appointed Siobhan Byrne to its senior management team, as the digital and media agency expands into owned media.

Ms Byrne joins the Newcastle firm from global network agency Dentsu, bringing over a decade of agency and product experience.

Steve Underwood, managing director, said: “I’m so pleased to welcome Siobhan to the Bonded senior management team. Siobhan is a great leader, technically strong and a great communicator.It’s brilliant to appoint a senior director, who is at the cutting edge of industry innovation and shares of our values of human connection.

“I’m looking forward to working together; to build an industry leading owned media offering.”

Rosie Hartman joins Hirestreet as strategy lead (Hirestreet)

Fashion rental platform Hirestreet has hired Rosie Hartman to lead it through the “year of rental”.

Ms Hartman, who has previously held senior positions at Zalando, Depop and Otrium, is an expert in disruptive fashion and will be responsible for driving Hirestreet’s new direction.

She said: “This year we are on track to deliver gross booking values in excess of £1m. Historically Hirestreet was a third-party rental platform, but we have shifted our focus towards operating as a rental marketplace. This means we work more closely with our brand partners to co-market their rental offerings.”

This will be the first time a UK rental platform will be led by a strategic hire as opposed to the founder Isabella West. Ms Hartman’s hire has coincided with a rebrand and refresh of the Hirestreet channels, in line with her marketplace vision.
