People on the move: Key North East appointments and promotions of the week

Katharine Elton has joined the senior management team at Bishop Auckland firm Plastic Mouldings Northern Ltd (PMN).

Ms Elton has been appointed as general manager to help the growth and development of the business. She brings over 16 years of experience in the industry, following her recent role at Bridgewood UK and joins the management team of Freddy Bourdais and Mark Rigg.

She said: “I’m really excited to join the team at Plastic Mouldings Northern Ltd at such an instrumental time, there are so many plans for even further growth and expansion in the pipeline. “Building relationships is key in the sector and I bring with me a wealth of strong supplier contacts which I’ve built up over the years. The company has a very strong reputation in the industry with two very experienced directors at the helm, and it’s great to be part of such a successful business model.”

North East law firm Hay & Kilner has appointed Guy Barr and Adam Chaffer to grow its presence in the corporate and commercial sector. Mr Barr joins as a senior associate, bringing more than two decades’ experience with leading North East law firms, and specialises in business disputes, contentious trusts and probate, and property litigation.

Mr Chaffer has worked in the legal sector for nine years, qualifying as a solicitor in 2018, and specialises in corporate and commercial litigation. Alongside his practice, he is the author of The Law Society Litigation Handbook and writes for both the Company Lawyer Journal and the Construction Law Journal.

Lucy Gray, partner and head of the dispute resolution team at Hay & Kilner, said: “We’ve been steadily growing our presence across all areas of dispute resolution and are continuing to reinforce our team with the type of high-quality practitioners required to help our clients achieve their personal and commercial goals.”

Two senior occupational health advisors have joined NPH Group in Newcastle. Sharon Marley and Kerry Clark have joined the occupational health and wellbeing provider, who will be based at the newly acquired clinic at Balliol Business Park.

Mark Philpott, CEO at NPH Group, said: “We are delighted to be able to hire new people and are still actively recruiting for further occupational health and wellbeing roles. The new hires are settling in well and getting used to our ways of working and adopting our motto of, little things, big difference.

Gillian Scribbins has qualified as a solicitor with independent law firm Muckle LLP. Ms Scribbins studied French and German at university and completed a masters in journalism before joining Muckle LLP’s Commercial Team in 2018 as a paralegal, after a spell with Northumbria University’s in-house legal team. Previously, she had worked for a French financial newspaper and the BBC in its rights, legal and business affairs team.

She started her 18-month training contract in September 2020 before qualifying into the firm’s dispute resolution team. She said: “Muckle has been supportive throughout my training and qualification, and I am delighted to continue my career here at the firm. It has been a great firm to train with as we get exposure to and responsibility for a breadth of complex and varied matters.”

Karen Gibson of Parkdean Resorts (Parkdean Resorts)

Parkdean Resorts has promoted long-serving member of staff Karen Gibson to head of accommodation. Having worked in the role of regional accommodation support for two and a half years, she now heads up the department on a national level.

She has worked at Gosforth based Parkdean Resorts, which has 66 parks across the UK, since 2003, starting out as a seasonal bar team member, before progressing through various roles at different parks.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started in my new role and to take on a new challenge. I’m passionate about ensuring our guests have the best experience possible with us so they can create lasting memories, and it’s very rewarding to be involved in that process.”

Consult North has appointed Thomas Foster as director (Consult North)

Quantity surveying firm Consult North has appointed director Thomas Foster as a director and quantity surveyor. The role adds to his directorship at J & W Lowry Limited and his previous experience in working as a senior quantity surveyor, project quantity surveyor and cost consultant. He joins managing director and company founder Javaad Khalil, who launched Consult North in 2020.

He said: “I’m delighted to be joining Consult North as a director at such an exciting time for the firm. Javaad has done an excellent job of creating and growing the business over the last few years, and I look forward to supporting him in taking it to the next level, to welcoming more clients and to supporting projects across our local and national built environment.”
