Adult Disability Payment (ADP) has now replaced new claims being made for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for people over 16 and under State Pension age living in Scotland. The new devolved benefit means that people of working age with a disability, long-term illness or physical or mental health condition can now apply for support from Social Security Scotland instead of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which administers PIP.
Existing PIP and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) claimants with ongoing awards from the DWP do not need to apply for Adult Disability Payment, their awards will be transferred automatically to the new Scottish welfare system in a staggered migration due to be completed by the end of 2025.
There will be no break in entitlement and DWP will write to claimants in advance of the transfer process starting - it is expected to take around three months to complete. Along with the changes to disability benefits, new claimants will also see changes to the Motability Scheme.
