People admit they've been using fans 'wrong' as woman shares 'unbelievable' trick

The weather is set to be scorching for most of the country this week, and while this is great news for during the day, warm temperatures at night can result in a restless sleep.

There's nothing more frustrating than trying to get a good night's kip but are constantly tossing and turning, unable to cool down.

Keeping a fan in the bedroom can be a good way to combat this, but according to one woman on TikTok, we've apparently been using them wrong - and there's a much more efficient way to do it.

The Mirror reports that Leah White posted a short clip to the video-sharing site that has left people shell-shocked and admitting they really had no idea how to use a fan.

The video, which has harnessed a whopping 1.8 million views to date, shows Leah admitting she's been doing it wrong her entire life and only recently stumbled across a better way.

Sharing the life hack with others who struggle to sleep in a warm room, Leah captioned the video: "I need to try this. I have never known this and I am 33."

She explained: "We're in a new build and it's quite a small house, so it retains heat so well and it's absolutely boiling every night."

"'We've been having a fan on and we've been waking up sniffing and we've got a cold - and I'm guessing that's from having a fan on all night.

"I saw someone's TikTok saying that's not how fans are used in bedrooms. I'm 28 years old - and please someone tell me that I'm not the only one who didn't know this.

"Apparently you're meant to have the fan facing a window with the windows open - and then you turn the fan on and it basically sucks all of the warm air out of the room outside.

"And then at night when it's cool turn it to other way around and it pulls the cool fresh night air in. I've just had it on for 15 minutes and my room is probably the coolest it has ever been.

"Did anyone else know this or was it just me being absolutely stupid?" she asked.

Leah's video has attracted thousands of comments, mostly from people who also hadn't realised they too had been using their fans wrong.

"I didn't know but shall try it," one person wrote.

"What?!" A second questioned. "I've just had it blowing directly in my face."

"I'm way older than you and just learned this today," someone else said.

A fourth admitted: "I never knew that, but I do remember walking past a house that had two fans in a window like that, and I thought that was weird. But I will try it now."

And another said: "I need to try this. I have never known this and I am 33."
