A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and the Moon are imperfectly aligned. In this case, the Earth blocks some of the Sun's light from directly reaching the Moon's surface and covers all or part of the Moon with the outer part of its shadow.
Sky watchers in many parts of the world may be able to witness a penumbral lunar eclipse on Friday, May 5. Unlike the recent solar eclipse, this lunar eclipse will be visible in India.
