Penthouse that flies in face of ‘fashion’ goes on the market for £60 million

One of the most expensive homes ever to go on sale on the historically unfashionable north side of Hyde Park has hit the market priced at £60 million.

The 6,800 sq ft penthouse on the ninth floor of developer Fenton Whelan’s Park Modern scheme in Bayswater has sweeping south-facing views of the park.

Bayswater has traditionally been seen as the poor relation of Knightsbridge, Belgravia and South Kensington, on the other side of Hyde Park. However, a major overhaul of Queensway and new developments in Bayswater are changing perceptions.

Publicity materials describe the eight-bedroom apartment as “the finest Hyde Park-facing home in London”, with its 2,500 sq ft private terrace above the tree line said to be among the largest in the capital.

Spaces include a grand entrance hallway, 20-seater dining room, family kitchen, cocktail bar and living area opening onto the wraparound terrace.

There are three penthouses among the 55 private units at the 160,000 sq ft PLP-designed building, which was first announced in 2018 and was finally completed this year.

The development includes the latest dining venue from London restaurateur Jeremy King, The Park. Residents will be able to request to hire a chef from the restaurant to cook for them in their home or in the private dining room at Park Modern. The Park is 8,600 sq ft with 150 covers and large picture windows looking towards Hyde Park.
