A pensioner was shocked when her energy bills rocketed from £120 per month to £4,600 - with the total per year adding up to four times her annual income. Mum-of-three Phyllis Kennedy, 73, lives on a state pension of £12,000 in a modest three-bedroom bungalow.
Phyllis, who is a widow, was stunned to be billed £4,600 per month by Scottish Power - with the energy company insisting it has read her smart meter correctly. She has been threatened with debt collectors and has no way of paying the massive bill.
Phyllis said the only way she could have incurred that much energy use would be growing a cannabis farm in the loft. She said the stress of the situation has had a massive impact on her life - and is not expected to be resolved for another couple of weeks.
