A pensioner has died after he was hit by a car on a busy Lanarkshire road.
The emergency services were called to the B7071 Glasgow Road, near Belmont Avenue, in Uddingston at around 11am Wednesday, May 17, following a report of a crash involving a car and pedestrian.
Tragically, the 79-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say a 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but has been released pending further enquiries.
Officers locked down the scene while a full accident investigation took place for over five hours.
A picture at the scene showed a white sheet on the ground with evidence markers placed across the roadway.
A Police Scotland spokesperson: “Police received report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on the B7071 Glasgow Road at Belmont Avenue, Uddingston, around 11am on Wednesday, 17 May, 2023.
“Emergency services attended, however the 79-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene
“A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.
“The road was re-opened around 4.20pm and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.”
