Pensioner attacked at random by thug who kicked him in the head

A man kicked a pensioner in the head and left him bleeding on the floor in an apparently random burst of violence.

Benjamin Jones, 21, from Trafford Avenue in Warrington never told officers the reasoning behind his "violent behaviour" on June 10, which saw a man left with "distressing" facial injuries. Cheshire Police confirmed that a 75-year-old man was assaulted while walking along Church Street in Warrington and again as he walked across Sainsburys car park at around 10.35pm on Friday.

At one point he was on the floor when Jones kicked him to the head, before casually leaving the scene. Witnesses came to his aid, and he was treated in hospital.

On Monday, June 13, Jones appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court where he admitted the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was then sentenced to a year in prison.

PC Ryan Stant said: "Jones has never told us the reason behind his violent behaviour, but it was inexcusable and shocking no matter what. To attack an elderly man going about his business, leaving him with distressing facial injuries is just incomprehensible.

"Thankfully, Jones is now behind bars for his vicious act of violence against an innocent man."
