Pennsylvania Reviews Possible Sixth Measles Death, a 39-Year-Old Franklin County Woman, as Statewide Cases Reach 1,222

A 39-year-old Chambersburg woman who had been diagnosed with measles has died, and the Franklin County coroner's office has reported it as a measles-associated death. If the state confirms it, she would be Pennsylvania's sixth measles-associated death this year. The coroner's office investigated the death on Saturday, October 10, and announced it on Monday, October 12, WESA reported.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has not yet added the death to its official count. In its October 14 statewide measles update, the department listed five confirmed measles-associated deaths and said it is investigating the recently reported death of a Franklin County resident. A department spokesperson said the agency is "conducting a thorough review of the reported death" and will update the public when its investigation is finished, the Pennsylvania Capital-Star reported.
