Pennsylvania's measles outbreak added 119 cases in a single week, pushing the statewide total to 540, the state Department of Health reported Wednesday afternoon. Ninety-one people have been hospitalized this year, and two unvaccinated Lancaster County residents have died from measles-associated causes. Forty-three of the new cases were added since Monday's report, and Lancaster County remains the largest cluster with 242 cases.
The pace is the new information. Two days earlier, the department reported 497 cases across 34 counties, with 87 hospitalizations and 37 new cases since Aug. 28. The Friday before that, the count stood at 460 with 83 hospitalizations. A week of triple-digit growth marks a different phase of the outbreak.
