Irish retailer Penneys has unveiled plans for a major relocation of their store in Dundrum Town Centre.
It will see €14.8 million invested into the new location, which will have a 64 per cent increase in retail space compared to the existing branch.
The company has confirmed plans to relocate to the second and third floors of the former House of Fraser site, which closed in early 2020.
Head of Penneys Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, Damien O’Neill, said: “We are so delighted to finally confirm the relocation and expansion of our Dundrum Town Centre store next year.
“As one of Ireland’s leading shopping destinations, Dundrum is a really important location for Penneys and very popular with our customers.”
The increased retail space will allow the Dundrum location to “offer a much wider selection right across fashion, beauty and homewares”.
“We have big plans and great ideas around how we bring our unique in-store design to life for our Dundrum customers, and we look forward to opening early next summer,” O’Neill said.
Connor Owens, Managing Director of Hammerson, who own the shopping centre in Dundrum said: “We are very pleased to be supporting the growth of Penneys in Ireland with this exciting new store at Dundrum Town Centre.
“This will be one of the brand’s biggest retail offerings in Ireland and complements our occupier strategy to mix established household retail brands with vibrant customer-led services from entertainment to restaurants."
Owens said that the plans “demonstrate the value big brands still see in physical space against an ever-evolving retail landscape”, which Penneys has committed to as they have no online shopping facility.
“This is one of the largest shopping centre lettings in Europe in recent years and is an indication of what is to come in 2022 and beyond with new uses and partnerships at Dundrum Town Centre in the pipeline,” he said.
Work will begin on the store this Autumn, with doors expected to open in the summer of 2023. The existing location will remain open during construction.
