Pedro Porro Spain decision made as Bryan Gil rewarded for Sevilla form after Tottenham exit call

Pedro Porro has been included in the Spain squad for their upcoming European qualifiers against Norway and Scotland. Joining Tottenham from Sporting CP at the end of January, the right wing-back has so far made six appearances for his new club since making the switch to N17.

Initially having to bide his time on the substitutes' bench with Emerson Royal preferred to him, the 23-year-old has started to show glimpses of what he can bring to Antonio Conte's team in an attacking sense. Having registered 11 assists for Sporting CP this season prior to his transfer to Tottenham, Porro got his first assist in Spurs colours last weekend as he teed up Harry Kane in the 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest,

Porro's call-up to Luis de la Fuente's Spain squad will give him the chance to add to his solitary international appearance that came in their 2-1 win away at Georgia in March 2021. Missing out on the squad since then despite his impressive performances in Portugal for Sporting CP, Porro's last international call-up was for Spain's UEFA Nations League Final games against Italy and France 18 months ago.

Porro isn't the only Tottenham player in the squad, however. The Spaniard has been joined in the 26-man party by winger Bryan Gil.

Following a lack of first-team football in north London during the first part of the campaign with a move to Valencia falling through, the youngster returned to former club Sevilla in January on a loan deal until the end of the campaign. The 22-year-old has impressed during his time back at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, making nine appearances for the La Liga side so far.

Last weekend Gil played a pivotal role in Sevilla recording a 2-1 win over Almeria after he teed up former Tottenham star Erik Lamela for the winner. Spain host Norway in their first Euro 2024 qualifier in Malaga next Saturday evening, before then travelling to Glasgow to face Scotland three days later.
